Startlight Support

We’re here to help you get the most out of Startlight, the iRacing race schedule app, Home Screen widget, and Apple Watch app.

For questions, feedback, bug reports, or anything else, email paul@denya.dev. Startlight is built by one racer, and your feedback shapes what ships next.

Do I need to log in or have an iRacing account?

Section titled “Do I need to log in or have an iRacing account?”

No. Startlight has no login and never asks for your iRacing credentials. It shows the public current-week schedule, so you can use everything the moment you open the app. Your series picks and settings stay on your device.

Touch and hold an empty area of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle, tap the + button in the top corner, search for Startlight, choose the size you want (small for the countdown, medium for the car, race week, and next track), and tap Add Widget. Tap the widget any time to cycle through the series you follow.

iOS decides how often widgets refresh to save battery, so the countdown updates on its own schedule rather than every second. Opening the app refreshes the data immediately. If it still looks stale, make sure Background App Refresh is enabled for Startlight in Settings → General → Background App Refresh.

Open the app and go to the series picker. Filter by category (Oval, Sports Car, Formula Car, Dirt Oval, Dirt Road) and by license, then tap the series you race to follow them. The widget shows the series you follow and lets you tap to cycle between them.

Once Startlight is installed on your iPhone, the Watch app installs to your paired Apple Watch automatically. If you don’t see it, open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll to Available Apps, and install Startlight from there. The schedule is synced from your phone over WatchConnectivity.

What happens between seasons or when nothing is scheduled?

Section titled “What happens between seasons or when nothing is scheduled?”

During the off-season or build break, Startlight shows the most recent schedule state and a “see you next season” message rather than a live countdown. When the new season’s schedule is published, it picks up automatically.

A connection error usually means the schedule service or iRacing’s own data is briefly unavailable. Wait a minute and reopen the app. You can also check iRacing’s status at status.iracing.com.

A Formula-style five-light sequence built into the app: wait for the lights to go out, then tap as fast as you can. It logs your best reaction time. The app is named after it.

  • iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later
  • watchOS 10 or later for the Apple Watch app
  • An internet connection to load the schedule

You do not need an iRacing subscription to view schedules in Startlight.

Startlight collects no personal data. See the Privacy Policy for details.
