Fanatec ClubSport DD+ review: 18Nm holding torque with a console license
The Fanatec ClubSport DD+ makes 18Nm of sustained holding torque for ~$829.99, after a free firmware update (V1.4.2.3, May 2026) raised it from 15Nm. That puts near-flagship strength in a base that’s still officially PlayStation-licensed, with the PS chip in the base. Strong cooling holds full torque even through endurance stints, and FullForce technology layers high-frequency vibration cues into the force feedback for road texture and lock-up you’d otherwise miss.

Who it’s for
Section titled “Who it’s for”Near-flagship torque with a console license, for a racer who doesn’t want to step up to the boutique high-end tier.
Buy it if:
- You want 18Nm, enough to cover any car you’ll drive with room to spare.
- You race on PS5 or PS4 and want the console license, with the PS chip in the base.
- You run long stints: the cooling holds the output you set over a two-hour race.
- You want near-flagship torque without going to the dedicated high-end tier.
Not the one if you’re PC-only and want to spend less (the 12Nm Simagic Alpha EVO) or you want an upgrade ladder above 18Nm (the Asetek Forte).
What it’s like to drive
Section titled “What it’s like to drive”18Nm that holds. 18Nm of sustained holding torque, after the free firmware bump, is class-leading at this price. The cooling is what makes it usable: the base holds full output over long stints instead of fading.
FullForce on top. FullForce adds a layer of high-frequency vibration on top of the FFB: kerb buzz, ABS pulse, the front locking. It reads as immersion without muddying the main signal.
Set it and trim. As with any strong base, you set it near the ceiling and trim in-game gain to avoid clipping. The per-base FFB guide covers the FullForce and Control Panel settings worth changing first.
Watch-outs
Section titled “Watch-outs”- 18Nm needs a stiff mount. A flexy desk will twist under this torque, so it wants a solid rig and a proper bolt-down or heavy clamp. See mounting and noise, and budget for the mount as part of the purchase.
- Brand-stability optics under Corsair ownership. Some buyers still weigh that, though logistics have normalized and the base ships in 1-2 business days.
Alternatives to consider
Section titled “Alternatives to consider”- Simagic Alpha EVO: cheaper 12Nm, PC-only.
- VRS DirectForce Pro DFP15: a value 15Nm step into the high-end tier.
- Asetek Forte: 18Nm with a defined upgrade ladder above it.
If your rig flexes, sort the mount before you turn the DD+ up, since 18Nm into a soft desk is wasted torque. The high-end wheelbases page shows what stepping up from the DD+ actually buys.
Frequently asked questions
Is 18Nm too much torque?
18Nm is near-flagship, well past what most drivers run at full strength. It needs a stiff rig and a solid bolt-down or clamp to use safely, and most people dial it back from the ceiling in the tuning menu. The headroom matters more than the max: at 18Nm the base never strains, so detail stays clean even when cars load up. See the torque guide for how much you actually use.
Does the ClubSport DD+ work on PS5?
Yes. It's officially licensed for PlayStation with the PS chip in the base, so it runs natively on PS5 and PS4 as well as PC. On Xbox it works only with an Xbox-licensed Fanatec rim, because the Xbox chip lives in the rim, not the base.
How did it reach 18Nm from 15Nm?
A free firmware update, V1.4.2.3 in May 2026, raised sustained holding torque from 15Nm to 18Nm with no hardware change. Existing units gain it through the Fanatec Control Panel. The base's cooling is what lets it hold that output rather than back off during long stints.
ClubSport DD+ or a dedicated high-end base?
The DD+ gives near-flagship torque plus a console license without stepping up to the high-end tier. If you're PC-only and want more headroom or an upgrade path, compare the Asetek Forte and VRS DirectForce Pro DFP15; the DD+ wins when the PlayStation license matters.
