Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel Formula V2.5 X review: the sub-$450 carbon formula rim with an OLED dash
The Fanatec ClubSport Formula V2.5 X is a ~$390 carbon formula rim (MSRP $439.99, on sale mid-2026) with a 1” OLED dash and up to 67 mappable functions, and it bolts straight onto any Fanatec DD base over the QR2 quick release. The 5mm solid carbon front plate and CNC-aluminum magnetic shifter paddles give it flagship-feeling hardware for a sub-$450 rim, and the built-in OLED plus 9 RevLEDs mean you read gear and shift point off the wheel itself. The catch is the ecosystem: it works only on a Fanatec base, with no USB mode and no cross-brand mounting.

No analog clutch standard (added via the optional Podium Advanced Paddle Module) |

| Connectivity | Proprietary Fanatec QR2 quick release (wheel-side may be billed/packaged separately on some SKUs). Fanatec bases only, no standalone USB: CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD/DD+, Podium DD1/DD2; older bases (CSL Elite, ClubSport V2/V2.5) need a QR1 adapter. Xbox-licensed (Xbox One / Series X|S + PC); PS4/PS5 only on a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base. No cross-brand compatibility |
| Price | ~$389.99 on sale (MSRP $439.99), mid-2026, official Fanatec US store |
| Best for | Sim racers on (or buying into) a Fanatec DD base who want a feature-packed, Xbox-compatible carbon formula rim with an OLED dash without flagship F1-wheel prices |
Who it’s for
Section titled “Who it’s for”A feature-dense carbon formula rim for someone already on a Fanatec DD base who wants an OLED dash and Xbox support without flagship money.
Buy it if:
- You’re on a Fanatec DD base (CSL DD, GT DD Pro, ClubSport DD/DD+, Podium DD1/DD2) and want an F1-style rim.
- You want a built-in dash: the 1” OLED, 9 RevLEDs, and FlagLED bars read gear, shift point, and flags off the wheel.
- You race on Xbox, where the licensing chip lives in the rim and is what lets the base run.
- You want a dense input set: dual 12-way rotaries, a 7-way FunkySwitch, two thumb encoders, and a joystick.
Not the one if you race on a non-Fanatec base (the Simagic FX Pro on Simagic and MOZA FSR2 on MOZA are the same-ecosystem formula rims) or you need a launch clutch in the box, since both of those ship with dual-clutch paddles.
Build and feel
Section titled “Build and feel”Solid carbon face. The front plate is 5mm solid carbon fiber, roughly 30 layers of unidirectional carbon cloth, with the shifter and paddle modules behind it in CNC-machined aluminum. The perforated grips (Fanatec’s spec lists leather; some listings say Alcantara) carry two built-in vibration motors. At ~1250g it sits closer to a flagship rim than its price suggests.
Inputs within thumb reach. The layout packs in two 12-way rotary switches with encoders, two thumb encoders, two 2-way toggles, a 7-way FunkySwitch, and an analog joystick, plus 11 push buttons across the face. That covers traction control, brake bias, ABS, and pit-menu navigation without lifting your hands, and Fanatec lets you map up to 67 in-game functions across it.
Dash you can read. The 1” white OLED runs at 128x64 for speed, gear, and live telemetry, the 9 multi-color RevLEDs mark the shift point, and the two FlagLED bars flag tire slip, blue and yellow flags, and the pit limiter. Pre-installed magnetic shifter paddles give a crisp tactile click with no contact wear. You configure the dash and LEDs in Fanatec’s tuning menu and Fanalab.
Watch-outs
Section titled “Watch-outs”- No clutch in the box. The standard rim has 2 magnetic shifter paddles and no analog clutch or dual-clutch paddles. A launch bite-point clutch means buying the Podium Advanced Paddle Module separately, so add that cost up front if you want consistent standing starts.
- Fanatec ecosystem lock-in. It works only mounted on a Fanatec base, with no USB mode. Older bases (CSL Elite, ClubSport V2/V2.5) need a QR1 adapter, and the QR2 wheel side may be billed or packaged separately on some SKUs.
- PlayStation needs the right base. Xbox and PC work directly, but PS4/PS5 work only when the rim sits on a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base. The rim alone does not add PS support.
- Grip material varies by listing. Fanatec’s spec text says perforated leather; some retailer and older listings say Alcantara. Check the current listing if the grip surface matters to you.
Alternatives to consider
Section titled “Alternatives to consider”- Simagic FX Pro: ~$549 formula rim for the Simagic ecosystem, the step up if you want a higher-end formula wheel and you’re on a Simagic base.
- MOZA FSR2: ~$649 formula rim for MOZA bases, the same-class pick if you live in the MOZA ecosystem instead.
- Fanatec ClubSport GT V2: ~$515 if you’d rather a GT-style round rim on the same Fanatec base.
- Fanatec ClubSport Universal Hub V2: ~$370 with QR2, the route to mounting a custom rim on your Fanatec base instead of a fixed formula wheel.
Confirm your Fanatec base takes the QR2 wheel side, then decide whether you need the Podium Advanced Paddle Module for a launch clutch before mapping the rotaries and FunkySwitch in the wheel button-mapping guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Fanatec ClubSport Formula V2.5 X have a clutch?
Not in standard form. It ships with 2 magnetic shifter paddles and no analog clutch or dual-clutch paddles. A launch bite-point clutch means buying the Podium Advanced Paddle Module separately, so budget for it if you want clean standing starts. The wheel button-mapping guide covers assigning the paddles you do get.
Which wheelbases work with the Formula V2.5 X?
Fanatec bases only, over the proprietary quick release. It runs the full DD lineup: CSL DD, Gran Turismo DD Pro, ClubSport DD/DD+, and Podium DD1/DD2. Older bases (CSL Elite, ClubSport V2/V2.5) need a QR1 adapter. There is no standalone USB mode, so it requires a Fanatec base to function. See wheel rims and quick release for the cross-brand picture.
Does the Formula V2.5 X work on Xbox or PlayStation?
It is Xbox-licensed, so Xbox One / Series X|S and PC (Windows) work directly. PS4/PS5 work only when the rim is mounted on a PlayStation-licensed Fanatec base. There is no cross-brand compatibility, so it will not run on a MOZA, Simagic, or Asetek base.
Does it have a screen?
Yes. A 1-inch white OLED (128x64) shows speed, gear, and telemetry, backed by 9 multi-color RevLEDs for the shift point and two FlagLED bars for tire slip, flags, and the pit limiter. A built-in dash is rare at this price; most mid-range formula rims make you add an external one.
