Fanatec ClubSport Steering Wheel GT V2 review: the modular GT rim with magnetic shifts
The ClubSport Steering Wheel GT V2 is a 330mm round GT rim bolted to the ClubSport Universal Hub V2, sold as one bundle for ~$515 on sale at time of check and ~$640 at list. The preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module gives each upshift a short metal pull against a magnetic detent. Everything clips to a Fanatec base through the QR2 quick release, so the GT V2 has no force feedback of its own and no standalone USB.

Who it’s for
Section titled “Who it’s for”A premium round GT wheel for someone already living on a Fanatec base who wants the best paddle feel in the class.
Buy it if:
- You already own a Fanatec base. The GT V2 clips on over QR2 and carries no base cost of its own.
- You want crisp magnetic paddle shifts. The ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module is the reason to pick this rim.
- You want to reconfigure and repair. Detachable button clusters, swappable paddle plates, and a hub that also takes third-party rims keep it flexible for years.
Not the one if you’re on Xbox or a non-Fanatec base (start from the wheel and quick-release guide), or you’d rather build your own rim on the ClubSport Universal Hub V2.
Build and feel
Section titled “Build and feel”Magnetic paddle shifts. The preinstalled ClubSport Magnetic Paddle Module is the standout shifter feel at this end of the GT class. Metal paddles snap against a magnetic detent, so each pull is short, fast, and tactile, with two plate sizes in the box to set throw and reach.
Suede and aluminum. The 330mm rim is brushed, anodized aluminum wrapped in genuine suede, with a metal hub housing behind it. The suede grips warm and holds well with gloves. An Alcantara V2 variant uses the same construction and sells separately.
Modular by design. The hub carries 16 integrated buttons, four detachable 3-button clusters with room for a fifth, a 7-way FunkySwitch, and a dedicated Tuning Menu button. The Universal Hub also accepts third-party rims through 6x70mm / 3x50mm bolt patterns and can mount analog paddle and clutch modules, so the wheel keeps adapting after the GT rim does.
Watch-outs
Section titled “Watch-outs”- Fanatec ecosystem lock-in. It needs a separately purchased Fanatec base over QR2. No Xbox support, and PlayStation is partial and game-dependent.
- Basic display. The 3-digit LED handles gear and RPM but feels thin next to modern formula wheels with full dashes, especially at this price.
- Suede wears. The suede rim benefits from gloves and shows wear over time, more than a smooth leather or rubber grip.
- No analog clutch in the bundle. The standard pairing has no dual-clutch paddles. You add a paddle or clutch module to the Universal Hub if you want them.
Alternatives to consider
Section titled “Alternatives to consider”- Cube Controls GT Pro V2: ~$849, a higher-grade premium GT rim if you want more than the GT V2 and aren’t tied to QR2.
- MOZA GS V2P GT Wheel: ~$369, a modular GT wheel with an integrated dash, the cheaper pick if you’re on a MOZA base.
- Simagic GT Neo: ~$289, the value GT rim on a Simagic base.
- Fanatec ClubSport Universal Hub V2: ~$370 for the hub alone, if you’d rather bolt on your own rim via
6x70mm/3x50mmthan buy the GT bundle.
Check which quick release your base uses before ordering, since older Fanatec bundles shipped QR1; the quick-release and compatibility guide covers QR1-to-QR2 fitment.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Fanatec ClubSport GT V2 work on Xbox?
No. There is no Xbox support. PlayStation (PS4/PS5) is only partial and game-dependent, and PC is fully supported. Platform support is set by the base, not the rim, because the GT V2 always runs through a Fanatec base over QR2.
What wheelbase do I need for the ClubSport GT V2?
Any current Fanatec base: Podium DD1/DD2, ClubSport DD/DD+, ClubSport V2/V2.5, CSL Elite, CSL DD, or the Gran Turismo DD Pro. The wheel has no own USB and clips on through the QR2 quick release. See wheelbases for the base side of the buy.
Is the ClubSport GT V2 a bundle?
Yes. It pairs the ClubSport Universal Hub V2 with the ClubSport Wheel Rim GT. Buying the Universal Hub V2 on its own instead lets you mount third-party rims via the 6x70mm / 3x50mm bolt patterns.
Does it have an LCD dash?
No. The GT V2 carries a 3-digit LED for RPM, gear, and the Tuning Menu, not a full-color TFT screen. For a screen-and-LED formula layout look at the ClubSport Formula V2.5 X.
